Technische Universitaet Dresden is one of the largest technical universities in Germany and is among the leading and most dynamic universities in Germany. As a full-curriculum university with 18 faculties in five schools it offers a broad variety of 122 disciplines and covers a wide research spectrum. Its focuses of Biomedicine, Bioengineering, Materials sciences, and Information technology, Microelectronics and Energy and Environment are considered exemplary in Germany and throughout Europe.

Since 2012, TUD is officially one of eleven “Universities of Excellence”. Its core elements are the “Institutional Strategy”, the Clusters of Excellence “Centre for Advancing Electronics Dresden” (CFAED), “Centre for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD) and the Graduate School “Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering” (DIGS-BB).

About 36.000 students are enrolled at TUD – more than three times as many as in 1990 (11.220 students). Internationally, TUD has earned a good reputation, about one eighths of its students come from abroad. Today, about 5.000 scientists from 70 countries are working at the TDU. It is among the 20 most innovative universities in Europe (“Reuters Top 100: Europe’s Most Innovative Universities”). Third-party funding increased from EUR 102.7 million (2005) to EUR 243 million (2015).
The European Project Centre (EPC) was established at TUD in 2005 as a Unit of the Directorate for Research to support international project management throughout all phases of EU-funded projects. Our team is experienced in European project management and able to advise on and operate expertly in a wide range of areas that qualify for assistance. Our team has far-reaching knowledge of EU funding policy and extensive experience in implementing the individual programmes and actions. In addition to consulting on funding, our key competences lie in administrative project management. Hence ideas can successfully be developed into projects.

Role in the project

The EPC at TU Dresden is going to share its experiences in setting up a unit focused on attracting EU-funding for the university and providing its researchers and academic staff with support in managing EU-projects with the project consortium. Since 2005, TU Dresden team of experts has been successfully providing advice and support for EU-funded projects in a wide range of programmes, for example Horizon 2020, FP 7, Erasmus+, TEMPUS, LLP, ESF and INTERREG. With this professional expertise behind the university, they will offer and provide trainings in the following areas, important for setting up successful Research and Development units at the participating Georgian universities:
