Project Objectives

P9 - Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University - BSU

BSU comprises of 9 faculties (Humanities, Education, Business and economics, Law, Social and Political Sciences, Natural Sciences and Healthcare, Physics-mathematics and Computer Sciences, Technological, Tourism), and 3 Research Institutes (Niko Berdzenishvili Institute, Agrarian and Membrane Technologies Institute, Institute of Phytopathology and Biodiversity). Currently up to 6000 students study at the vocational, Bachelor, Master and PhD programs; teaching and research processes involve 285 professors, 71 researchers and 750 visiting professors.


BSU offers wide range of options to students at all the three stages of education: there are about 7 vocational, 44 Bachelor’s, 28 Master’s, 15 doctoral and 3 single-level programs. The University preserves its traditional, fundamental fields and at the same time implements and develops new directions in response to the modern demands and requirements. Modern teachings methodologies including on-line learning is also widely used here.


BSU academic potential, traditions and the geographical location determine the priorities of its scientific-research activities. The academic and scientific personnel of the University are successfully engaged into the directions of Natural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Engineering, Technologies, Business and Public health as well as agricultural fields.


BSU is a multi-functional educational and scientific institution where a unified space of academic and professional education and research is created with the cooperation of students, professors, teachers and researchers. A number of scientific-research projects of international and national significance have been accomplished on the university base. The university has close partnership with the leading HEIs within and outside the country.

Role in the Project


BSU will be actively engaged in the implementation of the HERD project on all levels. It will host several workshops on its premises and a capstone conference of the project. Its academic and administrative staff, as well as PhD students will attend all the trainings and study tours organized within the project framework. BSU representative will serve on the HERD Steering Committee, and participate in the meetings organized within the management work packages. BSU will disseminate the information on project activities through various channels and means of communication to contribute to the greater visibility of the project outcomes.
